DIMAPUR, JUNE 12: Hundreds of children and college students came to be part of the Marathon Run organized by the Community Educational Centre Society (CECS) in partnership with National Child Labour Project (NCLP) and Wipro Cares. The event was supported by the department of Labour & Employment.
The Marathon for children was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome (IAS) while Labour Commissioner Nagaland, Er. L Nungshiyanger Aier flagged off the marathon for college students from Traffic Point near Holy Cross School at 7 am. The finish line was the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur.
Children as young as 8 years also participated in the 4 km long marathon run. About 10 colleges participated in the run. The winners of the marathon run for both school children and colleges were awarded with cash prizes for both male and female categories. All the participants were awarded with certificates.
The event was organized with the aim of eradicating child labour and to create awareness on the evils of child labour, and also to draw the attention to the role of social protection in keeping children out of child labour.
Deputy Labour Commissioner (DLC), Dimapur, Imlisashi Jamir who spoke during the short programme outside the DC office deliberatedon various issues and amendments involved in child labor.
Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome who also spoke during the programme stated that child labor issue is not only about enhancing laws, rules and amendments but also about changing the mindset of the people.
He said every individual can be an activist in one’s own way to fight against child labor.
A signature campaign against child labor was also initiated as part of the event.
