Kohima, Feb. 9 (EMN): Against the backdrop of various organisations demanding the enactment of the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) in the upcoming Assembly session, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday said that the government “will take time” to implement the exercise.
The chief minister informed that the Cabinet has “approved” and “accepted” the recommendation submitted by a three-member commission and is ‘working on it’.
However, the implementation “will take time” as it has to take place in “different parts”, Rio said.
He requested to allow the state government to “function” and implement the exercise “properly”.
‘We have segregated the Nagas, indigenous inhabitant Nagas, hill tribal of north-eastern part as mentioned in the Bengal Frontier Regulation Act of 1873. There are non-Nagas who have already settled in Naga Hills before Indian independence and those who came after 1963-statehood,’ he said.
“All these applications come into play and they will all get their status…We have to give protection to everybody and everybody should get their rightful rights,” he added.
Meanwhile, the chief minister informed that during the Assembly session, the House would discuss Naga political issue, power concerning revenue collection, securitisation and reconstruction of financial assets and Enforcement of Security Interest Act, 2002 in the Nagaland context and pass resolutions if necessary.
He added that Business Advisory Committee (BAC) has already decided the activities to be taken up during the upcoming Nagaland Legislative Assembly session, which will commence from February 12.
