Is Miley Cyrus ‘Flowers’ about ex-husband Liam Hemsworth?
Our Reporter
Dimapur, Jan. 15 (EMN): Miley Cyrus released her new single ‘Flowers’ on Jan. 13 with the lyrics about a relationship break up and coincidentally released the single a day before ex-husband Liam Hemsworth’s birthday on Jan 14.
Soon after the song was dropped, many fans quickly interpreted the song as being about her relationship with Hemsworth, noting similarities in lyrics to Bruno Mars’ song “When I was your Man” and the lyrics seemingly confirm this interpretation.
Even before the release of the song, it was rumoured that the song was about Cyrus and Liam. However, the lyrics are certainly prime evidence that the song is definitely about their infamous divorce.

The line “Built a home and watched it burn” is believed to be a reference to the couple’s shared Malibu home that was destroyed in the Woolsey fires of 2018. Additionally, the chorus of the song is said to be inspired by a song Hemsworth once dedicated to Miley, “When I Was Your Man” by Bruno Mars.
Furthermore, the line “Write my name in the sand” has led fans to speculate that the song may be about the former couple’s beach-related memories.
Flowers has lyrics that are strikingly similar to those of Bruno Mars’ “When I was Your Man”. Mars sings “I’ve come to realize that I should have bought you flowers and held your hand. Should’ve gave you all my hours when I had the chance, take you to every party, ’cause all you wanted to do was dance,” while Cyrus’ lyrics are “I can buy myself flowers, and I can hold my own hand. Talkin’ to myself for hours, say things you don’t understand. I can take myself dancing, yeah I can love me better than you can.”
This song is the first release from Cyrus’ upcoming album “Endless Summer Vacation” which is set to release in March 2023.
