DIMAPUR — A medical camp organised by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Wokha district branch, was held at Champang headquarters, under Bhandari sub-division, with deputy commissioner and chairman of IRCS Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, as the guest of honour on March 9.

According to a DIPR report, speaking at the launching programme of the camp, the DC lauded the IRCS Wokha team for continuously rendering active and invaluable services to Wokha district at both emergency and normal times.

He also commended the team for extending its healthcare services to the remote and interior areas of Champang, ensuring healthcare and medical assistance for the general public, including people living with disabilities, the elderly, and economically challenged villagers.

Stressing that Bhandari is one of the most important subdivisions of Wokha district, characterised by a large geographical area and hot climatic conditions, with a high number of villages and population, the DC appealed to the CMO Wokha, who was present at the camp, to continue providing healthcare machinery to the areas with priority, considering that some villages remain difficult to reach and access.

He also stressed that because Champang is prone to dengue and malaria, community members should take advantage of the healthcare facilities provided to them at their doorstep.

Ranjan also urged the CMO Wokha to conduct a beneficiary identification system (BIS) drive related to the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) to benefit people at the grassroots level.

Dr. Zumomo Ovung, Secretary of the IRCS Wokha Branch, who led the team, expressed gratitude to the DC for supporting, encouraging, and attending, thereby facilitating the provision of medical and healthcare services to citizens in need.

The chairman of the Champang Village Council said during the programme that the community needs at least one stationed doctor and asked the medical department to fulfil the requirement as soon as possible.

Doctors and paramedical staff from the CMO Wokha headquarters and CHC Bhandari assisted in the one-day medical camp, where more than 150 healthcare and medical beneficiaries received free health checkups and were provided with free medicine and medical facilities.

Also, during the programme, healthcare and livelihood relief materials were distributed to elderly individuals, people with disabilities, and other selected beneficiaries.
