Dimapur, Sep. 6: Union Minister for Textiles and Women and Child Development Smriti Irani in a tweet on Friday praised the Wokha district ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ (BBBP) team for its initiatives towards promoting BBBP in the district.

In a video attached with the tweet, it was informed that Wokha has been selected for awareness generation and outreach activities. Range wise sensitisation programmes are being held covering all villages. It also said that pledge linked incentives to parents of newborn girl child and taking of pledge is made compulsory in all government programmes. Furthermore, four local girl champions have been identified to promote the campaign, and adolescent girl clubs have been formed in all the blocks to generate awareness.
Seminars have been conducted to make customary laws and practices more women-friendly, it said. The BBBP anthem and ringtone have been widely distributed in Wokha district witnessing a raise in 11 points in SRP, it informed.
