IPPI 1st phase carried out across State

Along with the rest of the country, the 1st round Intensive Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) was conducted today across the State.
At the state capital, Commissioner & Secretary Health & family Welfare Sentiyanger Imchen administered the first Polio drops in the premises of the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) staffs.Earlier, welcoming the officials and parents gathered, Dr. I. Chubatoshi, State Programme Officer (UIP) H&FW, stated that IPPI has been a regular activity with a goal to eradicate Polio in the country and that the country would be completely Polio-free if people maintain and sustain their level of dedication and support.
Mobile Polio teams on IPPI would be visiting transit points, especially Bus, railway stations and taxi stands all over the State for the next two days. The 1st round of IPPI campaign will commence with the house to house visitation from January 19 to 20.
In Peren, the 1st round of IPPI was held at the District Hospital, Peren with Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Kadambari Bhagat as the chief guest. She also administered the first polio drop.
Dr. Khrielasanuo, DPO RCH/UIP chaired the programme, while the keynote address was delivered by Dr. Tiala, Dy CMO. In her speech, Dr. Bhagat expressed her appreciation towards the medical department for their efforts and contributions. She also highlighted on the importance of IPPI and requested everyone to extend their full contribution and support in eradicating Polio.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Tiala mentioned that India has been certified Polio free on May 24, 2014 by World Health Organization. She also added saying “IPPI is continued to be implemented as a precautionary measure as there is chance of transmission from the neighboring countries like Pakistan which is the most Polio endemic region in the world.
Altogether, 440 volunteers, 140 booths, 21 supervisors involved in carrying out the tasks in the district.
With the motive to reach out to every households, teams were also divided involving health workers, police department, Anganwadi workers, while ASHAs of every village were send out to every part of the district ensuring that no child is missed out.
The house-to-house visits will continue thereafter till January 20. The target population 0-5 years for Peren district is 13,294. The booth coverage so far for Peren district is 6763.
In Dimapur district, the IPPI Polio Sunday 2015 was launched at District Hospital Dimapur by Wezope Kenye, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur during a short launching programme chaired by Dr. Lanuakum, District Immunization Officer, Dimapur, while Rev. Mar, chaplain District Hospital Dimapur pronounced the invocation prayer.
The IPPI Polio Sunday was officially launched by Wezope Kenye with the administration of the first polio drops to a new born baby at District Hospital.
517 Polio booths were set up in Dimapur district to give coverage to a target population of 53,168 children of 5 years and below.
At Longleng, the first polio drops were administered by Nikashe Sema, Deputy Commissioner Longleng in the presence of Dr. N. Bendang Jamir, CMO, Dr. Kongyan deputy CMO and all the programme officers, nurses and staffs of the medical department.
Altogether, 70 booths were set up across the district manned by 280 vaccinators to cover the target of 7083 children in the age group between 0-5 yrs.
Health workers and volunteers will be conducting house to house visits on January 19 and 20 to look for missed children who failed to turn up in the booth for polio vaccine.
In Tuensang, the health department mobilised 920 vaccinators and supervisors and 276 booths in all the eight blocks of the district and Tuensang town to cover over 27,522 estimated children below 5 years.
Intensive house to house coverage will be carried out on January 19 and 20 to immunize missed-out children in all the blocks of the district.
Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer office, Tuensang has acknowledged and conveyed gratitude to all the allied departments, public leaders and people for their cooperation.
