Dimapur, Oct. 5 (EMN): Prior to signing the final Indo-Naga agreement, the NPF Legislature Party has asserted, among other things, the need to invite the group led by Adino Phizo to the negotiation table.

The party shared this view during a meeting with Governor RN Ravi in Kohima on Saturday, according to a press release. It maintained that no armed group should be left out of the final agreement in order to secure the future of the Nagas.

“While expressing its concern on inking of the final solution which should not become a cause for dissent within the Nagas, the party stated that the final solution should not be a repetition of 16-Point Agreement or Shillong Accord which failed to bring about permanent peace,” it stated.

According to the statement, opposition leader TR Zeliang reiterated the NPF’s stand that ‘Naga flag and Constitution’ should be included in the final agreement. “‪Throwing light on how certain subjects under Article 371 (A) were misinterpreted in the past, the NPF party pointed out some loopholes while maintaining that the Article should be strengthened and that more clauses should be added to remove the ambiguity that remains in the Article.

“The party added that Nagas cannot fully utilise the said Article because it is interpreted to the disadvantage of the Nagas by the GoI and its courts of law which practically makes the Article redundant,” read the statement.

It stated that the governor was hopeful that the ‘Naga issue would be expedited and a historic solution would be witnessed soon’.
