Dimapur, Feb. 15 (EMN): Jared Leto’s Joker has finally said, “we live in a society,” and it has set the internet on fire.

At the very end of the new Justice League Snyder Cut trailer, Jared Leto’s Joker can be heard saying, “We live in a society where honour is a distant memory. Isn’t that right, Batman?”

The phrase “we live in a society” is a long-running joke on the internet, a very popular meme attributing the phrase to DC’s infamous Clown villain and Batman’s arch-nemesis.

The fact is, the Joker has never officially said the phrase, either in the comics or in the films. So this is the first time that the Joker has delivered the popular phrase in any official capacity and therefore, the internet, as usual, has gone crazy as if their prayers had been answered by the DC gods.

In context, the meme was so popular that it had inspired a Change.org petition to have Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker say “we live in a society” in the critically acclaimed 2019 film, Joker.

Fast forward to 2021 and Jared Leto’s Joker saying “we live in a society” was bound to be received with much fanfare by the internet community. Even Jared Leto took the opportunity to tweet about the meme.

Maybe this is Zack Snyder trolling his internet fans or maybe it is life coming full circle, we’ll never know for sure, but Zack Snyder’s Justice League is dropping on HBO Max on March 18, 2021.
