DIMAPUR — A 14-day 4th edition of Mon International Trade Fair and Expo (MITFE) got underway at Mon town public ground on January 5. The fair was an initiative of Mon district administration led by the deputy commissioner, Ajit Kumar Verma.
The fair was inaugurated by Rajya Sabha MP, S Phangnon Konyak, in the presence of MLA Wangpang Konyak, Ajit Kumar Verma, government officials, civil society organisation leaders and representatives from towns and villages, stated a DIPR report.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Phangnon appreciated the efforts of district administration led by the deputy commissioner for organising such a grand event in a remote district like Mon. She was of the opinion that such event would not only benefit the artisans but also uplift the economy of the people.
While highlighting that promotion of local products and talents is crucial for economic growth and development of the district, she stressed that exhibitions and trade fair like MITFE should be promoted and organised regularly.
In addition, she also mentioned about various welfare schemes of the government particularly on the ongoing Vikshit Bharata Sankalp Yatra (VBSY) and appealed to the public to actively participate and avail the benefit from those welfare schemes.
The guest of honour and MLA, Wangpang Konyak, highlighted the advantages of MITFE-2024 and expressed that it would benefit the local entrepreneurs especially the youth. He also appealed to the people to actively participate and learn the new arts, techniques, crafts and talents from various participants coming from various parts of the country.
The deputy commissioner of Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, informed that the 14-day event would conclude on January 18. He added that the event would feature various programmes and performances by renowned artistes in addition to the exhibition of stalls.
He mentioned that MITFE was initiated with the motive to provide a common platform to various artisans and singers to showcase their talents. He added that the event would help in expanding the sales network and promote channel for market of various products from micro and small entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, Tingtok Konyak, president of Konyak Union (KU), expressed gratitude to the district administration for their effort in promoting local products by organising such a grand event. He assured his full support to the organisers and wished for a successful event in the coming days.
The event also featured cultural performances by the Hamho Ukhong and bamboo dance by Hongphoi Group, songs by Phangmei Yanlem and Chahwang group.
The vote of thanks was delivered by SDO of Mon, L Mongo Khiamniungan.
