International Day of Yoga observed across the state

Dimapur/Mokokchung June 21 (EMN): The fourth International Day of Yoga was observed across the state of Nagaland on Thur. June 21. Updates on Thursday informed.

Kohima: The department of Youth Resources and Sports has organised the fourth International Day of Yoga at Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima on June 21. The Department of Infomation and Public Relations updated on Thursday.

The union minister of state of the department of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution CR Chaudhary addressed the gathering. He said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi while addressing the 69th session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Sept. 27 2014, urged the world community to adopt an International Day of Yoga. Further, Chaudhary remarked that accordingly on Dec. 11 2014 the UNGA has approved the proposal by consensus with a record 177 co-sponsoring countries to establish June 21 as the ‘International Day of Yoga.’

Explaining the concept of Yoga, Chaudhary said that Yoga is an art and science of healthy living which focuses on bringing harmony between mind and body. He also asserted that medical research in recent years has uncovered many physical and mental benefits of Yoga including musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, lifestyle related disorders, stress etc.

More than a thousand participants performed the five Yoga structure: prayer, loosening exercises, yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (Hindi for control of breathe), oath taking, and peace prayer during the programme.

The governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and a host of dignitaries along with students and paramilitary personnel performed Yoga to observe the day.

Governor/ Raj Bhavan: The governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya and his lady wife Kavita Acharya, observed the International Day of Yoga at Raj Bhavan in Kohima on Thursday.  A press release from the Raj Bhavan on Thursday informed.

The day was observed along with the students from Nagaland University, ICFAI University, Global Open University, St. Joseph University, members of Rajya Sainik Board, Red Cross, Bharat Scouts and Guides, North East Zone Cultural Centre, and officers and staffs of Raj Bhavan.

Speaking about the importance of Yoga, Acharya stated as invaluable gift of India’s tradition. It is a preventive and curative science which does not have any side effects to the body. Yoga started in India and now it is practiced all over the world for the benefit it provides, he added.

NCC: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) Girl observed International Day of Yoga in all districts of Nagaland on Thursday. The event was centrally coordinated by a Naga Girls Battalion NCC of Kohima conducted at 17 different schools and colleges across the state. Updates on Thursday stated that it has recorded as the largest yoga performance. The cadets also performed the asanas according to the common yoga protocol given by the Ministry of Ayush. The event was conducted for an hour duration in which all the cadets participated.

Assam Rifles: The headquarter of IGAR (North) and all its battalions commemorated the International Yoga Day by conducting Yoga sessions at 80 locations in all districts of Nagaland. About 15, 000 troops along with its families, students, and locals from neighbouring villages participated. A press release from the AR informed on Thursday.

Spear Corps:  In keeping with the spirit of the International Yoga Day, the Spear Corps of the Indian Army also participated. All units and formations of the corps conducted a mass Yoga sessions at respective location including those in remote and far-flung areas. Over 10, 000 individuals from Spear Corps participated in the event at their respective locations in the Corps Zone

In the event organised at Rangapahar Military Station in Dimapur, over 500 persons participated. Lieutenant General Gopal R graced the event and motivated Yoga enthusiasts of the Corps.

BSF: The 111 Battalion of the Border Security Force celebrated the International Day of Yoga at BN HQ Satakha under the supervision of its Commandant Sanjeev Sharma. Civil personnel including school children of Satakha town and ex-service men took part in the yoga.

Schools and colleges: Various schools and colleges in the state celebrated the 4th International Day of Yoga. Institutions that observed the day included Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School, Dimapur; Mar Gregorios Memorial College, Dimapur; Unity College in Dimapur; Heraka Vidya Bharati School in Jalukie and others.

KVK: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra of Phek and regional station, ICAR-NRC on Mithun of Porba celebrated the International Day of Yoga at its Training hall in Phek. The programme was graced by the village council chairman of Porba, Shekhozo. Also, head of KVK Phek, RK Singh appealed to the farmers to put yoga into practice in their daily routine.

Further, various organisations and agencies such as Janjati Shiksha Samiti and others celebrated the International Day of Yoga at different locations.

Mokokchung: Along with the rest of the world, the fourth International Day of Yoga was observed at Multi-Sports Complex in Mokokchung on Thursday with the initiative of the department of Youth Resource and Sports.

The session was led by Tovili Wati DOC Scout & Guides which was participated by 170 plus participants from cadets of 25 Nagaland (I) Coy NCC, Mokokchung and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS).

The CO of the 25 Nagaland (I) Coy NCC, Col Vijay Ahlawat spoke on the event. He elaborated on the concept of Yoga and highlighted the importance of Yogic postures in maintaining a balanced and healthy life.
