Dimapur, May 13 (EMN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (Atma), Mon, conducted a farmer-scientist interaction on fall army worm (FAW) pest control and management measures in the conference hall of the DAO’s office, Mon, on May 12.

An update from Atma Mon stated that Daniel Konyak, agricultural officer; Imnuksangba, horticulture officer; Shampa Konyak, ATM; and Wennyei Konyak, ATM, were the resource persons of the programme.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Molosangla Ozukum, EAC, Mon, spoke on the effects of fall armyworm on maize crops in Nagaland adding that Mon is the 4th highest affected district in Nagaland. She also encouraged the farmers to attend the sessions sincerely and discuss the issues faced by them with the officials from agriculture, horticulture and Atma.

During the technical session, the resource persons discussed the effects of fall armyworm, its management and various control measures to be initiated by incorporating good cultural practices and also through mechanical, biological and chemical controls.

The farmers interacted on the use of pheromone traps, use of organic Neem and other locally available plants to control the pest. It stated that pheromone sachets, pheromone traps and organic Neem oil were distributed to the participants.

The programme began with an invocation prayer said by Yenwang, farmers friend, while the programme was chaired by N Subenthung Odyuo, deputy project director of Atma Mon, and the vote of thanks was delivered by I Nuchet, deputy project director of Atma Mon.
