WOKHA — The first inter-school sepak takraw tournament organised by Wokha District Sepak Takraw Association (WDSA-Sepak) kicked off on Friday at local ground Wokha, with Y Orenbomo Lotha, DPO, Wokha as the special guest.
The DPO, in his address, exhorted the students to undertake any given assignment with zeal and dedication, saying that only through dedication they can be able to achieve their goals.
Besides education, Orenbomo told the students to give due interest in the field of sports, informing them that sports personalities are highly respected and earn good money.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]He said the Indian government also acknowledges sports personalities and even gives them lucrative employment.
President of Lotha Students’ Union, Lirhonthung E Kithan, in his speech, appealed to the students to do away with all intoxicant substances as they affect their careers and health.
He urged the students to participate in the tournament in the true spirit of games and to give their soul, mind and spirit in order to become professionals.
T Thungchibemo Lotha, president of WDSA-Sepak, in his welcome address, highlighted the formation of the association in Wokha district and acknowledged the support of DYRO-cum- DSO Wokha. He informed that WDSA-Sepak, formed in the year 2021, was able to secure the runner-ups in 2022 at the inter-district sepak takraw tournament
Thungchibemo also said that with proper skills and techniques, Naga players can make it to the national level.
A total of 16 teams from five schools in the category of under-14 and under-17 for boys, and senior girls are taking part in the tournament.
