Inter-Sainik Schools sports and cultural meet underway

Dimapur, June 14 (EMN):  East zone Inter-Sainik schools sports and cultural meet 2022 is being organised at Sainik School Punglwa from June 14th to the 18th. Six Sainik schools are participating in the competition — Sainik School Purulia, West Bengal; Goalpara, Assam; Imphal, Manipur; Punglwa – Nagaland; Chhingchhip, Mizoram and East Siang, Arunachal Pradesh.

The opening ceremony of the championship was attended by Major General R S Guraya, VSM Chief of Staff HQ 3 Corps, Chairman of LBA as the Chief Guest.

The chief guest in his address exhorted the cadets to find passion in sports to bring more laurels to the country. He apprised the young cadets from different Sainik Schools that education today has undergone rapid changes and it can no longer be confined to just within the four walls of a classroom. Academic excellence along with sports, co-curricular and extra –curricular activities complements the process of education in order to become an effective leader and a responsible citizen, he said.

On his arrival, the chief guest inaugurated the outdoor sports stadium named after Dr. T Ao, captain of the Indian football team at the 1948 London Olympics.

 The opening address was delivered by the Principal of SSPN. A painting on Naga Warrior painted by Shri Dailee Mao, Art Master Punglwa was presented to the Chief Guest. All participating teams presented a colourful and unique cultural folk dance of their respective states, besides march past by participating teams and basketball exhibition match. The opening ceremony also included flag hoisting and lighting of flame.
