Dimapur, September 13: The closing ceremony of the 5th Inter High School Meet 2016 tournament was held on September 10 at local ground, Mon town with SDO (C) Mon, Illika, as the chief guest and the president of Konyak Union, Manlip, as the special guest. The programme was organised by Mon Town Students’ Union.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest urged the students to take sports beyond school life as a profession and reminded them to hold true values close to the heart. She said that they are privileged studying in the best schools of the district and being taught by the best teachers. She reminded the students not to forget cultural values as they are the future society and generation of the Konyaks and further requested the students to balance between the old and modern values.
President of Konyak Union, Manlip, appreciated MTSU for organising such a tournament for the students to upgrade the talents and skills of the students in the field of sports as games and sports are also a part of education.
During the tournament, the Anghjong Mission High School was declared a winner in football and basketball, while the Government High School 'D' was declared a runner-up in the men’s football and volleyball. Government Higher Secondary School 'A' was declared the winner in volleyball, while Don Bosco School was declared runners-up in basketball. In Sepaktakraw (boys), Government High School 'C' and Government Higher Secondary School 'A' were declared the winner and runners up respectively. Don Bosco School emerged the winner in Sepaktakraw (Girls) with Edith Douglas School as runners-up.
