Dimapur, Aug. 13 (EMN): The 6th Inter-departmental badminton tournament got underway in Pughoboto.
The tournament was declared open by SDEO Pughoboto, V. Yashito Swu in the presence of ADC, Phuleshe K. Yepthomi administrators, officers and others at the badminton stadium in Pughoboto on Monday, Aug. 13 according to a press release issued by the DPRO.
Yashito in his short speech highlighted the vital role of sports in our lives for physical, mental, and social health and how beneficial it can be.
He said that sports, whether indoors or outdoors, keeps us healthy, wealthy and active. Basically, we can have a healthy mind only when we have a healthy body; adding that it contributes to muscle development, coordination, cardiovascular health, and numerous other benefits. He also cited examples of top Indian players like Saina Nehwal, PV Sindhu, and Srikanath Kidambani.
Swu also urged the players that like any other sports, badminton too require a lot of dedication, practice and perseverance. The diabetes prevention program has found out that playing badminton decreases the incidence of developing diabetes by 58 percent even better than medication. He wished all the players to play well and give their best.
19 teams are participating in the tournament, added the press release.
