Dimapur, September 22: The 2nd inter-club Dimapur district badminton tournament got underway on Thursday evening at Sakus Mission College badminton stadium.
The event was graced by parliamentary secretary for Labour & Employment, Skill Development, and Border Affairs, Mmhonlumo Kikon as the chief guest.
The chief guest in his speech lauded the central government’s initiative to set up a special task force to prepare an action plan for the next three Olympics from 2020 to 2028. He expressed hope to see Naga sportspersons in the Olympics and to put Nagaland on the sports map of India in the future. However, he reminded the players that it has to be a collective effort of both players and the government.With dedication, hard work and sportsmanship Naga youth can achieve and thrive in sports, said Kikon. He also cited that many sportspersons have been inducted into state police force but that should not be the sole aim of playing sports. While urging the players to inspire younger generation, he further challenged them to give their best at the tournament.
Altogether 68 shuttlers are competing in 35+ amateur, 35 below and 35+ categories.
