DIMAPUR — With an objective to provide free health services to at risk population in priority districts, the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) launched the integrated health campaign in Chümoukedima and Niuland on Wednesday.

The campaign will be for a period of two months and cover all pockets of adjoining districts. During the campaign, health workers would provide of services in counseling, screening of TB, HIV, Syphilis, HBV, HCV testing, diagnosis of diabetic, hypertension, anaemia and any other services as per local needs, stated a DIPR report.

Speaking on the occasion, the ADC of Chümoukedima, Dr. Kuzonyi Wideo, requested the civil societies, NGOs, tribal councils to disseminate the information to the local people and create awareness as most of the people are unaware of the facilities.

He also assured all possible assistance from the district administration for the smooth implementation of the campaign.

In his keynote address, NSACS project director, Dr. Ahu Sekhose, informed that the campaign is for all the states in India but basically targeting the northeastern states.

NSACS deputy director and nodal officer of IHC, Dr. Zaiwang informed that 1861 people in Chümoukedima district are on ART of March 2024 including 1738 in Chümoukedima Sadar, 74 in Medziphema block and 49 in Dhansiripar block.

The total number of people tested for HIV from April 2023-March 2024 was 17,162 comprising 14783 general client and 2379 ANC.

In Niuland, the deputy commissioner, Sara S Jamir, attended the launch of integrated health campaign held in her office.

In her speech, the DC stressed the need for healthy citizens and proper healthcare facilities for the nation to grow. Since Niuland do not have a District Hospital, she requested the stakeholders, especially medical officials to reach out to the unreached pockets of the district in order to ensure success of the campaign.

In regard to HIV/AIDS and TB problems, the DC stated that stigma and discrimination are more harmful than the disease and urged the concerned department to conduct intensive awareness camp in the district.
