Diphu, April 3 (EMN): A sum of INR 5,56,100 was recovered in Diphu treasury office from the chamber of Treasury Officer (TO) Amarendra Sharma during a raid by Karbi Anglong police here on Wednesday.
The raid was lead by Additional Deputy Commissioner Norsing Bey, Additional Superintendent of Police (Head quarter), Indranil Barua and other officials.
Informing the media persons, ADC Norsing Bey said, "Today after getting prior permission from the deputy commissioner we could open the sealed office of Diphu treasury office in the presence of police officials and Directorate of Finance officials. During the search, a sum of INR 5,56,100 was recovered from chamber of Treasury officer". Bey also informed that the matter is under investigation.
Additional Superitendent of Police (HQ), Indranil Barua said, "we followed the allegation and during investigation a cash of INR 5,56,100 was recovered from the chamber of TO". Further, Barua also informed that TO Amarendra Sharma is absconding
Mention can be made that the Diphu Treasury office was sealed following an FIR lodged by the Deputy Commissioner, Karbi Anglong Mukul Kumar Saikia at Diphu police station on Monday last. The office was sealed in the presence of additional deputy commissioner and Magistrate Norsing Bey and Addl.SP Dibyoti Talukdar. There has been allegation that the Treasury Officer (TO) Amarendra Sharma along with other staff of the office has been taking money as bribe to clear the bills by getting TO signature and token for payment of salary and non salary .
