DIMAPUR — The Liquor and Drugs Destruction Board destroyed seized liquor and drugs worth INR 36 lakh at the Excise Directorate Complex in Dimapur on Monday, under the relevant sections of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act 1989 and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.
An update from the Commissioner of Excise, Nagaland, informed that an excavator was used to crush liquor, while the seized drugs were destroyed by incineration. The destroyed items included 13,426 bottles of assorted IMFL/beer; 1,200 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup; 604 grams of heroin; and 11 kg of ganja (cannabis or marijuana).
The destroyed items were seizures made by three enforcement wings based in Dimapur, namely: District Excise, Mobile Squad, and Narcotic Cell, between February and November 2023. During this period, an amount of INR 7 lakh was deposited as revenue realised from case compounding.
The Commissioner of Excise, H Atokhe Aye, commended the Excise enforcement personnel for the huge seizures made during the last few months, especially with the approaching holiday season, and for diligently performing their duties despite the limited manpower. He also encouraged them to continue to work sincerely.
The superintendents of Excise Dimapur district, Mobile Squad, and Narcotic Cell read out the reports of the seized articles at the programme chaired by the deputy commissioner of Excise (NC).
