INR 229 cr. disbursed to the state under PMMY

The Ministry of Finance has disbursed total amount of INR 229.10 crore to women borrowers in Nagaland state under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) scheme as on January 31, 2020, since its inception in April of 2015.

Union Minister of State for Finance and Corporate Affairs Anurag Singh Thakur informed this in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

It was informed that 36,133 account holders in Nagaland took loans amounting to INR 229.10 crore and more than 15 crore loans amounting to INR 4.78 lakh crore have been disbursed to women borrowers in the country since the inception of the PMMY scheme as on January 31, 2020.

The loans are extended to eligible borrowers for manufacturing, processing, trading, services and activities allied to agriculture, which help in creating income generating activities and employment. However, profession-wise details are not maintained centrally, it stated.

PMMY is a scheme to extend collateral free loans by banks, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) and micro finance institutions (MFIs) to small and micro business enterprises and individuals in the non-agricultural sector to enable them to set up or expand their business activities and to generate self-employment.

The number of accounts and number of loans sanctioned under PMMY during 2015-16 to 2017-18 was 12.27 crore, out of which 3.49 crore were new entrepreneurs.
