DIMAPUR — Promising innovators from various parts of Nagaland showcased their innovations in addressing pressing environmental challenges through groundbreaking solutions at the Startup Green Innovation Challenge held at YouthNet Incubation Centre (YIC) in Dimapur on August 16.

The event was organised by Sustainable Development Goals Coordination Centre (SDGCC) under Planning and Transformation department, YouthNet, AIC SELCO Foundation and Nagaland Tool-Room and Training Centre (NTTC) with support from Startup Nagaland under Industries and Commerce department and AIM NITI Ayog.

An update from YouthNet stated that the winners and runners-up were awarded cash prizes of INR 1 lakh and INR 20,000 respectively for rural technology, waste management and women innovator categories, while student innovators winners and runners-up were awarded cash prizes of INR 30,000 and INR 10,000 respectively.

In rural technology, Ajon Konyak from Mon district was declared the winner for his innovation on ‘Portable mini band saw,’ while the second prize was won by Tumong from Noklak for his innovation on ‘Smokeless (electric/solar) stove.’

In waste management, Kelhousesi from Kuda Waste Solutions, Dimapur, was declared the winner for their innovation on ‘Waste segregator and product development,’ while the second prize was won by Zaiyigum Zeliang from Zeliang Codetech, Dimapur, for their innovation on ‘SGDMS 1.0V.’

In the women's innovator category, Lovi Achumi from Dimapur was declared the winner for her innovation on ‘Lemonade juices (LEMO), while the second prize was won by Inaholi Zhimomi from Chümoukedima for her innovation on ‘Crochet crafting.’

In the student innovator category, Zenwang Konyak and A Khampei Wangnao, students of Kohima Science College and SET from Mon district, won the first prize for their innovation on ‘Multipurpose plucking tool,’ while the second prize was won by Hope Academy Robotics Club from Dimapur district for their innovation on ‘Smart cap for the visually impaired.’

It mentioned that the aims of the Startup Green Innovation Challenge were to identify and promote promising innovators that are addressing pressing environmental challenges through groundbreaking technological solutions.

It stated that Dr. Simanta Kalita, CEO of AIC SELCO Foundation, was impressed by the number of innovations coming from various corners of the state.

The judges of the challenge were Dr. Simanta Kalita, CEO of AIC SELCO Foundation; Kenei Theunuo, team leader of Startup India and deputy director of Industries and Commerce; Nunesenuo Chase, director of YouthNet; K Phyobemo, SDG officer from SDGCC Nagaland; G Barthakur, programme coordinator of AIC SELCO Foundation; and Awalo Keppen, assistant manager of Nagaland Tool-Room and Training Centre.

It further stated that the selection process of the Startup Green Innovation Challenge was based on innovation and creativity, environmental impact, viability and scalability, market potential, financial stability, presentation and communication.
