DIMAPUR: In an effort to popularise science and expose the local student community to astronomy, the Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre organised a sky gazing event focused on the observation of the moon and the lyrid meteor showers.
An update from the Science and Technology department stated that the event was conducted in Kohima at Azedon High School on April 19 and Dimapur at Bethesda Higher Secondary School on April 27.
It informed that each event consisted of two sessions comprising interactive seminar and sky gazing. It stated that Asecho Cosmos Phinyo, local science communicator and author of the book ‘Sunlight & it’s effect on the environment’ and T Wilson, education assistant at Innovation Hub and Space Education Centre, Nagaland Science Centre, interacted with the participants as resource persons during the interactive seminar in Kohima and Dimapur respectively.
The seminar was followed with sky gazing, wherein the moon was discussed and observed using astronomical telescope Celestron CPC 1100 Starbright XLT and the lyrid meteors were observed with the naked eye.
It stated that both events concluded with a spot-quiz based on the subject wherein the top three responses were awarded.
A total of 150-160 participants attended the events.
