Infant killed, family members injured by lightning in Mon district
DIMAPUR — Tragedy struck Sheanghah Chingnyu village in Mon district on Easter Sunday morning, when a lightning claimed the life of a two-and-a-half-month-old boy and injured several other members of the family.
Rev. Peihwang Wangsa of the Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjüm (KBBB), who was with the victim’s family at District Hospital Mon on Monday evening, said that the tragic incident happened around 6 am.
He said that six people were in the kitchen of the house when the lightning struck, knocking down four of them, including the parents, the two-and-a-half-month-old baby, and their seven-year-old son.
The infant, who was held by his father at the time of the incident, reportedly lost his life on the spot.
Wangsa informed that the individuals seated opposite to the father and the baby were severely affected by the lightning.
It took approximately one hour for the mother to regain full consciousness after the lightning struck, while the father regained consciousness after about 10 minutes, he said.
Two relatives, who were not affected by the lightning, immediately sought help from the neighbours.
Wangsa disclosed that the funeral service of the infant was held on Sunday evening.
As of Monday morning, the family members affected by the incident were admitted to the District Hospital Mon, which is approximately 35 kilometres away from the village.
They are still under medical care but in stable condition.
