Industrial unit gutted in fire

Staff Reporter DIMAPUR, MARCH 6 A devastating fire which broke out in the wee hours on Thursday completely gutted a coir and foam industries in Block-II of Thilixu ‘B’ here. The factory houses two units namely Renomme Coir Industries and Kivifoam Industries in Block-II of Thilixu ‘B’ along Doyapur road. Though the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, residents suspected it to have been caused by an electric short circuit. A resident at the site told media persons that the fire was first spotted at around 4.30 am which within no time engulfed the whole factory. He suspected that the fire started from the foam manufacturing unit judging by the nature of its combustion, adding the presence of chemical aggravated the intensity. Fire and Emergency Services, which received information at around 5.30 am, rushed six fire tenders to spot to douse the fire. It took one and half hours for the fire fighters to completely bring the fire under control. There was, however, no report of any human casualty or injury in the incident. Though the loss of property could be several crores of rupees, it could not be ascertained.
