Indigenous games display mark ‘Tokhü Emong’ celebration
WOKHA — Display of indigenous games marked second day celebration of ‘Tokhü Emong,’ the premier festival of Lotha community, at Wokha town public ground on Friday.
The launch of Lotha indigenous games was attended by NPF legislator, Achumbemo Kikon, as the special guest.
Speaking at the event, Kikon said that standup comedy has become one profession which is highly demanded in the present day. Stating that professional standup comedians are highly paid, he called upon the organisers to include such acts in the programme.
Reminding that indigenous games are implanted in their genes and run in the veins, Kikon called upon the youth and elders to give effort in inculcating indigenous games and make those games a worldwide recognition. He also said that Naga and Lotha in particular must trained well in such fields such as indigenous spear throw, Naga style wrestling.
He informed the gathering that the indigenous games that were displayed at the programme should not end at Wokha local ground but carry forward and convert it into professions. He called upon to preserve and promote the indigenous games and popularised for recognition.
He further wished the participants competing in the games to exhibit the true spirit of Tokhü Emong.
The indigenous games were monitored by Team Metamorphosis and NGOs from Wokha district.
On the occasion, indigenous games such as tug-of-war, spear throw, greased bamboo pole climbing, bamboo stilts walk (bamboo horse walk) and knitting were displayed.
