Twitter just released a data analysis report on the volume of tweets related to ‘gaming’ on the platform for the first half of 2022. India managed to take the 8th spot among the top ten countries that tweeted the most about gaming, slotting in right under Philippines and just above the United Kingdom.

The gaming sector is considered to be one of the fastest growing industries in the country. According to a report by KPMG, in 2019, the gaming industry in India generated about $0.8 billion. In 2021, that had risen to $2.2 billion and by 2025, it is expected to more than double its current revenue.

On Tuesday’s Insights Blog by Twitter, the company revealed a list of the top ten countries that tweeted the most about gaming in the first half of 2022. The social media platform said that there were approximately 1.5 billion tweets about gaming in 2022 and it claimed that it was a 36% increase in tweets about gaming year-over-year.

Twitter attributed the rise in tweets about gaming to various popular titles like Elden Ring and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and also events like Sony Playstation’s State of Play and the Summer Game Fest.

“In the first half of 2022, there were approximately 1.5 BILLION Tweets about gaming – a record half following up on a record year for gaming conversation in 2021,” wrote Rishi Chadha, Twitter’s Global Head of Creator & Gaming Content Partnerships. “The 36% increase in Tweets about gaming year-over-year* was driven by big-time conversations around game releases like Elden Ring, esports leagues like Call of Duty League, VALORANT Champions Tour and Professional Gamers League Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and global gaming events like Xbox Showcase, Playstation’s State of Play and Summer Game Fest.”

Apart from the list of countries tweeting the most about gaming, Twitter also revealed data on several other categories including “Most Tweeted About Video Games,” “Most Tweeted About Esports Athletes,” and “Most Tweeted About Esports Team” among others.
