Independent candidate Yangseo Sangtam wins Pungro-Kiphire bye-poll

Dimapur, Nov. 10 (EMN): Independent candidate T Yangseo Sangtam won the 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency bye-election by a margin of 1527 votes.

The polling for the bye-election to the 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency was held on November 3 and re-polling at two polling stations on November 7 before the votes were counted on Tuesday.

Sangtam secured 8747 to defeat four other candidates in the bye-election. His nearest rival S Kiusumew Yimchunger, also an Independent, got 7220 votes, while Lirimong Sangtam of BJP secured 5664 votes and K Shellumthong Yimchunger (Independent), 5388, and Khaseo Anar of INC, 347.

A total of 94 people pressed the NOTA (None of the Above) button in the constituency, which has 26987 voters.
