Independence Day celebrated across Nagaland

Dimapur, Aug. 15 (EMN): The 76th Independence Day was celebrated in all district headquarters and sub-divisions throughout the state with ministers, parliamentary secretaries and administrative heads hoisting the national flag.

Schools and institutions, defence and para-military forces, NGOs and others also took part in the celebration by organising events, paying visits to hospitals and jails and distributing items.

Dimapur: The advisor of Power department, H Tovihoto Ayemi, who hoisted the tri colour during the 76th Independence Day celebration at DDSC Stadium in Dimapur said that the state the government of Nagaland is taking up three hydro projects namely- Lower Tizu Hydro Electricity Projects (42 MW), Zungki Hydro Electricity Project (24MW), and Tizu Valley (24 MW) as a part of Externally Aided Projects through the Asian Development Bank.

Maintaining that the issue connected with the 186 MW hydro electricity projects at Dikhu is also getting resolved and a couple of others in progress, he said the state will be self-sufficient in electricity power supply once these projects are completed.

Mokokchung: Minister for Rural Development & SIRD, Metsubo Jamir, hoisted the national flag at the Independence Day celebration held at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, a DIPR report stated. The minister also read out the Independence Day speech and inspected 12 parade contingents. Highlights of the day’s programme included presentation cultural dance by Cultural Club Khensa, pipe band display by 23rd Assam Rifles and an exhibition tug of war match.

On the occasion, the minister also presented the District Awardees 2022. Later in the day, Jamir inaugurated the exhibition stalls and the newly constructed basketball court at Imkongmeren Sports Complex.

Zunheboto: Zunheboto celebrated the occasion at local ground, Zunheboto, with minister for Agriculture and Cooperation, G Kaito Aye, who hoisted the national flag and inspected the parade contingents, a DIPR report stated. Earlier in the morning, national flags were hoisted in all government offices and educational institutions. Fifteen government employees were also felicitated with district commendation certificates. NDPP Zunheboto distributed face masks to the people present at the ground.  Later, Sumi Officers’ Union visited Civil Hospital, ZCCI Jail, and STH visited the Juvenile Home. A football exhibition match was also played between DC Xl and ZAPO.

Mon: Mon celebrated the Independence Day at local ground Mon with minister of Transport, Civil Aviation & Railways, P Paiwang Konyak as the chief guest. The minister undertook the ceremonial flag hoisting, reviewed the parade and delivered the Independence Day speech.

According to DIPR, the event witnessed march past by DEF Mon, 6th NAP, Village Guards,6th NAP Pipe Band, NCC (Boys), NCC (Girls), Wangkhao Government College, GHSS Mon town (C), GHSS Mon Town (D), Student Police Cadet, Konjong Higher Secondary School(NCC) and ex-servicemen.

Phek: In Phek, the celebration was held at local ground, Phek town, where leader of NPF legislature party, Kuzholuzo Nienu, hoisted the tri colour. A DIPR report stated that 17 parade contingents took part in the march past. Azo inaugurated the exhibition stalls set up by Agri and allied departments and self-help groups. Folk songs and dances from various groups and taekwondo demonstrations of taekwondo were the highlights of the celebration.

About three thousand people including government officials, GBs, and area public attended the celebration.

Longleng: In Longleng, the day was celebrated at public ground, Longleng, with minister for Health & Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom who hoisted the national flag, inspected the ceremonial parade contingents, and took the Rashtriya salute from the nine parade contingents, an official bulletin stated. Highlights of the day’s celebration included folk dance by Noklangkong Adhoc Ward and Yongnyah Union, modern folk fusion by Leinak youth, exhibition matches (tug of war), presentation of district awards, inauguration of exhibition cum sale stalls by the special guest and Free COVID-19 vaccination drive by the medical department.   

Peren: In Peren, Chairman of UDA, TR Zeliang, hoisted the tri colour and took Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents at DC office complex. Zeliang gave away certificates of commendation to two successful entrepreneurs of Peren district namely- Aleuna Ndang and Pausuina Herie. Highlights of the day included the hoisting of the national flag in all government offices, dances by Peren Village Council cultural troupe, Heraka cultural troupe, Jalukie B, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Jalukie.  In Jalukie town, the day was also successfully celebrated at GHSS ground with advisor, Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire as the special guest.

Noklak: Advisor, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Economic & Statistics and Evaluation, L Khumo, hoisted the national flag at Noklak headquarter. According to an official report, Khumo took the Rashtriya salute from 12 parade contingents and read out the Independence Day speech. He also handed over the district commendation award on the occasion. Other highlights of the programme included cultural dance by Lengnyu Village Guards and exhibition stalls set up by Agri and allied departments.

Tuensang: Tuensang district observed the occasion at the parade ground, Tuensang, with advisor, PWD(R&B), H Chuba Chang, who hoisted the national flag, a DIPR report stated. SP, Tuensang, Vishal Chauhan, reviewed the parade contingents. The event witnessed distribution of district commendation awards to various government employees. Certificates of appreciation for 100% COVID vaccination were also awarded to GPS Noksen, GMS Noksen, GHS Noksen, and St Joseph’s School Noksen.

Kiphire: Minister for soil & water conservation, geology & mining, V Kashiho Sangtam, hoisted the tri colour at the Independence Day celebration held at public ground, Kiphire, a DIPRreport stated. Earlier the national flag was hoisted in all the government offices and private buildings. Altogether nine parade contingents participated in the parade namely, 41 Assam Rifle, DEF Kiphire, 14th NAP (IR), VG, Scouts, Guides, Zisaji Presidency College (NCC), GHSS Kiphire (NCC), 41 Assam Rifles band. Certificates were awarded to 12 villages and two schools under Kiphire district for 100% successful completion of second dose of Covid vaccine.

Chümoukedima: Chümoukedima district celebrated Independence Day at Chümoukedima town public ground where minister for PHED, Jacob Zhimomi, hoisted the national flag, took the Rashtriya salute from the parade contingents, and read out the Independence Day speech.

The celebration was marked by cultural presentations from Chekiye, Kuki, Phom and Yimkhiung cultural troupes. The programme ended with the beating of the retreat by the 15th NAP (IR) Mahila pipe band, a DIPR stated.

Niuland: The occasion at Niuland was graced by minister of Planning & Coordination, Land Revenue, and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu, who hoisted the national flag at the Niuland public ground and took the Rashtriya salute from the 15 contingents.

Highlights of the day were special presentations by St. Joseph school, JNV Nihokhu and Shepherd High School, folk dances by Project Colony and P Vizheto Village, followed by the inauguration of exhibition stalls.

Tseminyu: Minister for PWD Housing & Mechanical, Tongpang Ozukum, hoisted the tri colour at the celebration held at Rengma Sports Association Ground, Tseminyu Old Town.

The highlights of the programmes included cultural dances by Kandinu Public Union Tseminyu and Kasha Daho, special numbers by Ephraim Pamie, exhibition football match between DPDB Tseminyu and Football Association Tseminyu District, a DIPR report stated.

Shamator:  Citizens celebrated the occasion at Shamator with S Keoshu Yimchunger as the special guest. The special guest unfurled the National flag and inspected the marching continents and read out the Independence Day. Dr. Mhathung Ngullie MO Shamator received the first district outstanding service/ meritorious award. The inauguration of stalls was followed by cultural presentations from Lunkhe cultural troupe, Mongtsuwong cultural troupe, Kuthur village, Sangphur village, Shamator village, and Sukiur-B village cultural troupes, a DIPR report stated.

Reports of Independence celebrations have also poured in from various sub-divisions and administrative circles including Pughoboto, Aghunato, Tening, Satakha, Medziphema, Meluri, Aboi, Longkhim, Changtongya, Chozuba, Wakching, Jakhama, Chiephobozou, Thonoknyu, Chen, Seyochung, Ahthibung, Pfutsero, Tobu, Pungro andTizit.

Nagaland House Delhi: Nagaland House Delhi staffs celebrated Independence Day at 29, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Road, New Delhi, where advisor for Food & Civil Supplies, LM & CP NSDMA, Pukhayi Sumi, MLA, hoisted the national flag. PRO, Nagaland House, in an update stated that Pukhayi in his address said on this special day, all citizens must remember the great freedom fighters of India. He also thanked the Nagaland House Delhi staffs for given the opportunity to celebrate the day with them. Additional chief secretary & chief resident commissioner, Nagaland House Delhi, Jyoti Kalash, said that one should never forget the moral value of Independence Day. Around 200 staffs and children attended the event. The 1st NAP Delhi, presented the guard of honour, it stated.
