MOKOKCHUNG — The commercial vehicle associations of Mokokchung, Tuensang, Zunheboto and Longleng districts on Thursday unanimously announced to impose indefinite “chakka bandh” on all commercial vehicles, starting from 5 am on October 9.

The announcement from the associations of the four districts comes after the expiry of the seven-day ultimatum to the concerned department for disbursement of outstanding payments to the commercial vehicles for the services rendered during the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly election earlier this year.

The associations, in a joint press statement, alleged that despite the expiry of the ultimatum, the government has failed to respond to their demands, leaving them with no other choice but to resort to bandh.

The associations also cautioned that heavy penalties will be imposed against those who defy the bandh.

There is apprehension that if an indefinite ‘chakka bandh” is imposed, it will automatically have a negative impact on the markets and the common people suffer due to price fluctuation.

Besides, all the market and commercial products in the four districts, from food items to medicines, is solely dependent on commercial vehicles for their transportation.
