The 39th annual sports week of Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Chumukedima got underway today at 1st NAP Ground, Chumukedima under the theme ‘Living the art of teamwork’. Gracing the opening ceremony as the chief guest, Parliamentary Secretary for Central Administration Work Division, R Tohanba stressed on sports as one of the main component of physical, moral and spiritual well being in human life.
Emphasizing on the importance of sports activity, the Parliamentary Secretary remarked that sports should be inculcated as part of education. “It is an art to get to know the same thought, idea and learning the way and means to achieve one’s goal,” he said.
Citing examples of players like cricketer Virat Kohli, boxer Mary Kom and archer Chekhrovolü Swuro who brought laurels to the nation and their respective states, Tohanba said sportspersons of the highest caliber are an asset to the nation. To this, he encouraged the students to actively partake in sports activity with seriousness and towards professionalism.
He further stressed that sports is a platform which can bring change for the good of the society, adding that it also brings unity, harmony and peace. He, therefore, called upon the students of PCC to bring in such ‘unity and peace’ through sports activities not only inside the campus but globally as well.
Also considering sports as an important phenomenon in human life, he stressed on the importance of participation as more important than winning a game.
The chief guest also declared the 39th PCC annual sports week open.
