Two separate pre-poll incidents reported in Noklak; police officer injured

In yet another election-related violence, the National People’s Party (NPP) convoy was attacked at Thoktsur Junction and Pang village under Noklak district in Nagaland on Sunday.

The NPP Nagaland President, Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema, and his convoy were pelted with stones while returning from Kiphire to Noklak for district-wise campaign.

The attackers took positions from above the road and pelted stones damaging at least five vehicles, according to source.

The incident happened at around 7:30 pm.

The attack was reportedly done by supporters of L Khumo (LJP-RV), as per source.

In a separate incident on the same day, the OC of Thonoknyu was reportedly attacked by supporters of MLA L Khumo while on duty near the legislator’s residence. The police officer got injured in the head and was taken to a healthcare facility.

It may be mentioned that Benei M Lamthiu of NPP is contesting against S Heno (NDPP) and L khumo (LJP-RV) under 57-Thonoknyu AC.

At least three pre-poll related violence incidents have been reported in the past four days with most cases taking place during night time.

Earlier on Thursday, miscreants reportedly hurled suspected improvised explosive devices  at the residences of Janthungo Kikon, chairman of Tsungiki Village Council, and Chopathung Odyuo, former candidate from 37 Tyui AC, at around 10 pm at Wokha Town.

In another incident on Saturday, clash between supporters of two candidates from 2 Dimapur-II Assembly Constituency (AC) was also reported, leaving two persons with minor injuries, said Dimapur police.

Director General of Police Nagaland, Rupin Sharma on Wednesday had informed that eight cases were registered and 24 persons arrested in connection to the election- related violence. The eight cases registered included five from Wokha, two from Mokokchung, and one from Longleng.
