Inaugural NAYSA-D Presidential Trophy underway
KOHIMA — The inaugural ‘Presidential Trophy’ being organised by the Northern Angami Youth and Sports Association (NAYSA) Group D got underway at Botsa Ground in Kohima on Saturday.
According to an update from the organisers, NAYSA-D is an association of 12 villages and in order to provide platforms for upcoming sports talents in the area, it is organising the year-long league tournament.
Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, Advisor to the Chief Minister and Chairman of the Nagaland Khadi Village Industries Board, attended the inaugural programme and exhorted the players not to treat sports just as hobbies or recreational activities but to take them seriously, highlighting the immense potential that sports have.
The 12 villages are divided into two groups, each comprising six villages, and compete every second Saturday of the month and men’s football and women’s volleyball events will be organised simultaneously.
It said that the trophy will promote more unity and exposure among the member villages, apart from providing a platform for the sportspersons. The tournament also gives young upcoming artists a platform to perform songs during game breaks.
