DIMAPUR — A book titled ‘Voice from the Forgotten Village,’ penned by Inakali Assumi and published by PenThrill Publications, was released on Saturday by the additional director of the Directorate of Higher Education, Dr. K Nishena Nykha, at Juni Book Cafe, Duncan Bosti, Dimapur.

Presenting the author’s note during the launch, Assumi said that she started working on the book in 2018. She revealed that the book was delayed because she recognised a lack of full comprehension of the main character, and the delay was essential for her to better grasp and portray the main character’s essence.

As a result, she spent a significant amount of time researching, delving into a wide range of literature concerning mental health and schizophrenia. This effort was pivotal in equipping her with the necessary understanding, and eventually, Assumi believed, she had gained the insight required to introduce her character to the world.

Moreover, she said, she articulated her consistent inclination to envision the splendid days of ancestral achievements, a time when melodious songs and captivating tales thrived, and expressed that she always yearned to journey back into time to immerse herself in those moments, and through this book, her aspiration to transform this yearning into a tangible reality has been fulfilled.

The author explained that this book is about modern people who are entangled in the web of modernity, and it also serves as personal exploration, a quest for inner identity, and a pursuit for a sense of belongingness in a world of divisions and distinctions. Above all, this book is all about unique experiences, and it will find a place in the hearts of the readers, she noted.

Dr. K Nishena Nykha, speaking at the event, emphasised the importance of engaging in passionate reading before embarking on a writing journey. While appreciating the author’s work, he lauded the simplicity yet intricacy of the language she used. Nykha also encouraged the author to persist in her writing endeavours.

Vishü Rita Krocha stated in her publisher’s note that this book is the 76th publication of PenThrill and that she has had the good fortune of working with many young and promising writers from the state over the past nine years of publishing books.

They rarely stick to their writing goals, but Assumi has been persistent in her pursuit of writing, and her ability to tell vivid and engaging stories is admirable, she said, adding that ‘Voices from the Forgotten Village’ is her best work yet.

Krocha stated that PenThrill first published Assumi’s work titled “The Yellow Dress” in February 2020, a collection of 16 mesmerising tales that was received very well and sold better than most books, and mentioned that the book is also included in the MA 3rd semester English syllabus of St. Joseph University.

Furthermore, she said that given her deep love for writing and her innate ability to weave stories, she strongly believes that Assumi will continue to make great strides in her pursuit of writing.

Inakali Assumi is a researcher, author, and educator. She holds an MA, an M.Phil., and a Ph.D. in English Literature. She has also co-authored a collection of poems titled ‘Potpourri Poesy’.
