In solidarity with AYO: Orgs. condemn death threat to contractor
DIMAPUR — Different organisations continue to condemn the death penalty imposed by the NSCN-K (Khango) on the proprietor of KKB Rülho, and express solidarity with the resolution of the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO).
It may be mentioned that the AYO has resolved to maintain non-cooperation with the Khango-led group till the matter of ‘capital punishment’ issued to the contractor and its member is settled.
CYF: The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF), while condemning the threat, stated that capital punishment is non-existent in Naga society and that the CYF will not tolerate such foreign threats that undermine the very fabric of their culture.
“The CYF shall, in the strongest terms, support the AYO in its stand for justice,” it said in a statement on Monday.
Noting that the formation of the CYF in 1995 was necessitated to protect the community leaders from capital punishment, which had been ordered for several prominent figures at the time, as well as in response to the assassination of nationalist leader General Povezo Soho, the CYF stated that it will not remain a mute spectator to threats that hinder peace in society.
“The CYF is distressed to learn that at a juncture when the Nagas need to be showing solidarity to one another, ultimatums spawned from greed continue to expose how hollow our national movement has become,” it added.
RSZ: The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) stated in a press release that the threat from the NSCN-K (Khango) group, and acts of intimidation and violence have no place in society and maintained that such actions undermine the unity and peace that the Nagas strive to achieve.
Commending AYO for its stance, the RSZ said that its resolution to stand up against such threats is not only a testament to its principles but also an inspiration to all those committed to justice and the rule of law.
RSZ reiterated its support for the principle of ‘one government – one taxation’ and urged all factions and organisations to engage in constructive dialogue and cooperation.
NAPO-C: The Northern Angami Public Organisation (NAPO) Group-C, expressing shock over the death threat, described it as an “uncivilised and inhuman attitude” of the group.
NAPO-C voiced that such demands, threats, and intimidation have no place in a civilised society and are alien to Naga culture. It requested all right-thinking citizens to condemn such threats in order to pave the way for a just and peaceful society.
It sought the cooperation of every citizen and village under its jurisdiction to comply with AYO’s directive.
NASU: The Northern Angami Students’ Union (NASU), condemning the act of “cowardice,” said that while Nagas are working towards peace, harmony, and progress, such threats to life can never be accepted in a civilised society.
Stating that it has physically paralysed and mentally tortured the victim, NASU said that as a concerned students’ organisation, it will continue to provide its utmost service to protect, promote, and support the citizens.
ZLSU: The Zeliang Students’ Union (ZLSU) said that such inhuman acts and harassment are unacceptable. It noted that while the Nagas are yearning for a solution, such evil thoughts and criminal actions are not condoned in Naga society.
“No one should be targeted or harmed for their dignity,” it said, adding that the ZLSU strongly supports the AYO, which is protesting against the disorder and havoc caused by the Khango-led group.
The ZLSU also asked the concerned authority to withdraw the statement immediately.
BAP and BYO: The Bayavü Area Panchayat (BAP) and the Bayavü Youth Organisation (BYO) also condemned the death penalty and expressed deep concern about these “anti-social elements masquerading as national workers” who intimidate and extort citizens.
In a joint statement, the two bodies said that such behaviour is completely unacceptable and warrants immediate intervention. It added that no sane individual or society will tolerate such abominable threats.
Further, they declared that they stand united with the AYO in its mission.
