In a state in the nature of Nagaland, nothing is unexpected when it comes to the government: Some offices in Jalukie under Peren are functioning “from the comfort of their homes” of the workers and employees even as officers stay truant for ‘days and months,’ a students’ organization has reported.
Leaders of Jalukie Students’ Union of Nagaland “carried out surprise visit” to various government establishments in Jalukie sub-division under Peren district on April 8.
“The main purpose of the visit was to build cordial relationship with all the officers so as to encourage and assist in rendering fullest service to the public,” the union stated in a note issued to the media on Friday.
The Jalukie Students’ Union of Nagaland regretted that some officers and employees were found to be absent for ‘days and months without any genuine reason.’They had been purposely neglecting their duties ‘causing immense adversity to the general public who requires their service,’ the union stated.
According to the union, some offices such as the Block Development Office are “functioning without proper office, the deplorable condition of the office looks more horrific then pitiable as the department has no intention to renovate or maintain the allotted office.”
Instead, the union stated, “they were functioning under the comfort of their residence and quarters causing difficulty to the villagers and the public at such time when rural development is considered one of the most important departments running various major schemes and projects.
“The surprise visit was also intended to check irregularities of duties and attendance of the officers and staffs. During the visitation, The JSUN had friendly deliberations with some of the officers present in their office on matters relating to their activities and the problems faced by the respective departments,” the union said. While assuring ‘fullest support and cooperation to all the departments,’ the students’ organization asked officers and staffers posted in Jalukie sub-division to be sincere in their duties and be present in their places of posting.
