In a first Nagaland Lokayukta to charge sheet IAS officer
Dimapur, Jan. 24 (EMN): In what could be the first for the newly constituted Lokayukta in the state, the anti-corruption Ombudsman on Thursday accorded prosecution sanction to its police to charge sheet a senior IAS officer.
The case against the officer, Angau I Thou, was of ‘involvement in the illegal, back-dated appointment of tourist officers and tourist assistants while serving in the Tourism department,’ a statement from the director of Nagaland Lokayukta Police informed.
It was established that the accused had manipulated records and also violated the Election Model Code of Conduct when she was the commissioner and secretary under the Tourism department.
Lokayukta of Nagaland Justice Uma Nath Singh accorded the ‘Prosecution Sanction under Section 26 of the Nagaland Lokayukta Act, 2017’. The statement further added that she was being charged under ‘Section 120B/ 420/ 465/ 466/ 468/ 471 IPC and section 13(1) (d) r/w Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988’ and the police will submit the charge sheet at the earliest.
In accordance with the direction of the Supreme Court and pressure from various anti-craft bodies, the Nagaland Lokayukta Bill was finally passed in December 2017. The first Lokayukta was appointed in February 2019.
