Implement Inner Line Permit regime rigorously, CNSA tells government
DIMAPUR — The Central Naga Students’ Association (CNSA) has expressed concern over the potential influx of illegal migrants from Bangladesh to North-east India, including Nagaland, amidst ongoing political turmoil in the neighbouring country.
Cautioning about the potential for significant socio-economic and cultural impacts on the local population if the issue remains unaddressed, the association issued a statement on Friday calling for proactive measures from the government such as rigorous implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP).
To mitigate potential challenges, the CNSA called upon the Nagaland state government to collaborate with central agencies to enhance the security apparatus along the border to prevent illegal crossings.
“The state government should also implement a comprehensive identification and registration system through the rigorous implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) for all migrants, ensuring that those who enter do so legally,” it said.
Additionally, the association stressed the importance of educating the local population about the legal and social implications of the influx of illegal migrants to ensure community cooperation in addressing this issue.
It said that the influx of migrants from Bangladesh has been a continuous struggle and fight for many of the north-eastern states, including Assam. Consequently, districts like Mokokchung, Wokha, Niuland and Dimapur that share borders with Assam have also continued to struggle with the problem.
“As such, if stringent actions are not taken, our state poses a danger to the flow of illegal migrants into our homeland,” it asserted.
“The CNSA believes that with proactive steps, the state can prevent further influx of illegal migrants into the state and can manage the situation effectively, ensuring the security and prosperity of our state”, it said, expressing hope that the state government led by the Home department, would give this matter the attention it deserves and take necessary actions to safeguard the interests of the state and its people.
