Imphal, Nov 10 (EMN): The Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long (Imphal Tangkhul women’s body) on Saturday celebrated its silver jubilee at Manipur Baptist Convention Recreation Centre in Imphal.
Speaking on the occasion, Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla said the Tangkhul women have been rendering creditable service in spreading education among the women and taking up various activities of social service.
The Tangkhul society has a rich culture and it is really gratifying that womenfolk are making sincere efforts for the preservation and enrichment of their cultural heritage, she said..
She acknowledged the women for coming together for an inclusive growth of the society and in nation building.
“There will be challenges in life and more often than not women bear the brunt of these challenges in the society. But it should be our endeavour to create an atmosphere of social harmony and move forward together as one,” Heptulla said.
She maintained that education is a must to empower women in the society, particularly in the hill districts as they are lagging behind. She appealed to the union to spread education among the womenfolk.
Stressing on the importance of skills for economic empowerment, the governor encouraged the union to take the lead in organising trainings and awareness camps for women especially for those far flung areas.
Cultural dance (depicting the victory of war), folk song and choreography were presented by the various units under the union.
