Imphal Police Station wins best police station award
The Imphal Police Station (IPS) located in the heart of the state capital became the best police station among 100 plus police stations in Manipur.
The Ministry of Home Affairs conferred the best police station award in the annual ranking of police stations for 2022.
The DGP Manipur P Doungel formally handed over the certificate of excellence to the officer in-charge Inspector N Ingocha Singh of IPS during a function in the presence of senior police officials in Imphal on Monday.
Congratulating the IPS for their achievement, DGP Doungel said, “It’s good that one (station) overtakes another as we’ve competition among the police fraternity.”
Lauding not only the contribution and activities of IPS but also its responsibilities because of its prime location, the state police chief expressed the need to work with the responsibilities.
“We also need to set an example by helping each other in maintaining law and order and also in taking up other welfare activities,” he said.
In his welcome note, SP Shivakanta Ksh of Imphal West district said that IPS has lots of responsibilities. Stating that the station serves beyond its jurisdictions because of its location, he said, “IPS has around 30 investigation officers but it’s not sufficient considering its coverage. It also has other VIP duties.”
The IPS established in 1892, the oldest police station among the existing 101 police stations in Manipur, had once overseen the overall law and order situation of the entire state, according to Inspector Ingocha.
Additional DGP L Kailun, Inspector General of Police (Administration) K Jayenta Singh, Inspector General of Police (Zone 1) Themthing Ngasagva were also present during the day’s function.
In 2020, the Union Home ministry named Manipur’s Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district the best in the country. Last year, Manipur’s Nambol police station in Bishnupur district was conferred the Best police award for 2021 while the City Police Station in Imphal West district was declared the best police station in the state in 2019.
