KOHIMA — LifeConnect Nagaland has been impacting and empowering the weaker section of the society, especially by reaching out to women in Kohima with different projects.
During an interaction with Eastern Mirror on Thursday, coordinator of LifeConnect Nagaland, Charemnaro Pongener, highlighted the recent activities conducted by the organisation.
The most recent activity conducted under the organisation was on August 16, where soya chunks and dry fish pickle-making process was demonstrated with an aim to encourage more women to take it up.
The organisation is initiating Alcoholic Analysis (AA) programme, besides providing free tuition to children under the homework help centre, it was informed.
It has also taken up several initiatives to empower, including ‘Folding Lives’ wherein three women with a ‘dark side’ to their stories are being giving employment opportunities.
These women, who are paid according to their work, earn their livelihood without depending on anyone.
LifeConnect is also undertaking projects including ‘The Happy Kitchen,’ ‘Happy Flow,’ and ‘The Giving Pantry.’
‘The Happy Kitchen’ is an initiative with an objective to train women and girls on baking, cooking and fruit preservation. ‘Happy Flow’ promotes menstrual hygiene and dignity, and free pads are distributed to 50-100 girls each month. Free pads boxes have also been put up at many restaurants and shops in Kohima as part of the project.
The Giving Pantry project provides a window for people to donate their pre-owned clothes, kitchenware and other materials to someone in need, it informed. There are also projects like Threads of Tapestry and Homework Help Centre.
LifeConnect is a women-based organisation with an aim to empower the marginalised women and girls living under poverty line.
The organisation also provides internship programmes for students studying Master of Social Work (MSW) as well as theologian students.
