Imna Along covenes meeting with theological fraternity

Dimapur, March 22 (EMN): Directorate of Higher Education and principals of theological colleges in Nagaland had a coordination meeting, under the initiative of minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs minister, Temjen Imna Along.

A statement on Monday said that Along stressed on the need for a holistic education system in the theological colleges of the state.

It said that the minister also called upon the theological fraternity to have “proper mechanism and strategy to build a strong society and also, to equip well to meet the growing challenges in this competitive world.”

During the meeting, a five member core committee was formed with two members from higher Education department and three from the theological fraternity. It said that there were 44 theological colleges presently in Nagaland.

The minister further assured that the government would provide the “rightful amount” of grant-in-aid to the theological institutions.

It said that the suggestion for introducing the department of religious studies in Nagaland University would be taken up to the concerned authority.

“Expressing concern over the mushrooming theological colleges in the state, the theological fraternity requested the government to intervene and scrutinise the factor properly and give NOC accordingly,’ it read.

Earlier, Nagaland Theological College Association (NTCA) president Dr. Rushulo Seb in a letter addressed to the minister had sought a “legitimate and stronger relationship” between the state government and the Nagaland theological fraternity.

The meeting ended with distribution of grant-in- aid packages to the theological colleges, it added.
