Naga People’s Front (NPF) president Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu has suspended former minister Imkong L Imchen from the active and primary membership of the party with immediate effect and until further orders.
The order issued by the NPF chief mentioned that the activities of Imkong L Imchen in the recent past have been “adversely” affecting the “fragile” nature of the reconciliation process as well as mutilating the hard earned unity within the party. It then claimed that in this regard Imkong L Imchen was issued a show cause notice on February 15, 2016 to explain his stand on his anti-party activities which tantamount to “voluntarily giving up his party” that is punishable under the Tenth Schedule to the Constitution of India. ”Imkong L Imchen sent a curt two paragraph reply on February 19 to the show cause notice without effectively explaining the complaints contained in the show cause notice thereby displaying his contemptuous attitude towards the party and the party functionaries,” the order of the NPF further mentioned.
According to the order, the Disciplinary Action Committee of the NPF at its sitting held on March 2, 2016 after proper application of mind on the matter, made its recommendation for suspension of Imkong L Imchen from the primary and active membership of the Naga People’s Front.
“A reconciliation within the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has been substantively effected and, though in some areas, still under way, in pursuance of an order dated 27.3.2015 of the Election Commission of India issued after adjudication of a dispute raised by some of the dissidents within the NPF and in pursuance of Resolutions adopted by the General Convention of the NPF held on April 30, 2015 at the I. G. Stadium, Kohima,” the NPF press communiqué mentioned, while adding, “Any activity of any members of NPF which is casual, careless, mindless and injurious to the integrity of the party, will have serious and deleterious impact on the reconciliation that has so far been achieved and still being achieved as aforesaid”.
“And now therefore in exercise of my powers under Article V Section 9 read with Article XIV of the Constitution of the Naga People’s Front, I, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu, president of the Naga People’s Front, hereby suspend Shri Imkong L Imchen, MLA from the active and primary membership of the Naga People’s Front with immediate effect and until further orders,” the order said.
