DIMAPUR — The Mission Indradhanush (MI), a flagship immunisation intensification drive launched in December 2014, has successfully enhanced routine immunisation under the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP).
To carry forward the programme, Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) 5.0 would be launched in three phases in 2023 with an aim to vaccinate children up to 5 years and eligible pregnant women who have missed doses.
Unique features included flexible session timings, digital data recording through U-WIN, and a heightened focus on reaching underserved populations.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]The first round of IMI would be launched from August 7 to 12, while the second round from September 11 to 16 and the third round from October 9 to 14.
IMI drives target to vaccinate those left out and dropped out children and eligible pregnant women who missed the routine immunisation activities. The objective of IMI 5.0 is to identify all children up to 5 years for missed doses, register them on U-WIN and vaccinate them in specially planned IMI sessions.
A DIPR report stated that over nine years, the mission has significantly increased immunisation coverage with India reaching 76.4% (NFHS-5, 2019-21) compared to 62% (NFHS-4, 2015-16) and Nagaland reaching 58% (NFHS-5, 2019-21) compared to 35% (NFHS-4, 2015-16).
Despite those achievements, it stated that the COVID-19 pandemic and other challenges have impeded progress.
