ILP won’t harass Indian citizens —Patton

Dimapur, Dec. 13 (EMN): Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton has assured that Indian citizens would not be harassed because of the ILP while reiterating that the permit will not be issued to foreigners, according to a DIPR report on Friday.

Patton was addressing a meeting concerning the extension of ILP to the entire district of Dimapur, convened among various non-Naga communities of Dimapur on Friday at Police Mess, Chümoukedima.

The deputy chief minister appealed to the various organisations to cooperate with the government of Nagaland and advised them not to give protection to “illegal immigrants”.

He further assured the various non-Naga communities that no NGO or student body would harass them with regard to ILP as the government will be taking care of the issue. “If anybody comes and harass with regard to ILP, you report to the government,” Patton said.

Chief Secretary Temjen Toy also said that the government is equally concerned about “all citizens of India and for which such consultative meetings are held.”

He also said that the main reason for coming up with ILP notification in Dimapur was to maintain peace and tranquillity; and sought the cooperation of all.

According to the DIPR report, the non-Naga communities of Dimapur also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister of Nagaland.

The meeting was attended by Assamese Samaj Dimapur, Agarwal Samaj Dimapur, Brahmin Samaj Dimapur, Bengali Samaj Dimapur, Bihari Samaj Dimapur, Bhojpuri Samaj Dimapur, Nagaland Gorkha Association, Kohima, Gurdwara Sriguru Singh Sabha Dimapur, SD Jain Samaj Dimapur, Maheshwari Samaj Dimapur, Meitei Samaj Dimapur, Muslim Council Dimapur, Oswal Samaj Dimapur.

Home commissioner of Nagaland, DC Dimapur, CP Dimapur and other government officials also attended the meeting, it reported.
