Shady business maneuvers continue to plague Dimapur market. An organization representing business owners dealing in sand construction sand have sounded an alarm on what they say are some shady business people who have illegally hiked the price of sand.
The Sand Stockists’ and Suppliers’ Union of Dimapur issued a statement today stating that ‘some individuals’ have started selling price at a much higher rate than legal. These unscrupulous people are said to be taking advantage of the ban on supply of sand from Karbi Anglong which came into effect about a month ago.
Informing this development, the leaders of the union said that the price rates fixed by the union for Kanaighat sand stands at Rs. 37 per cft while Lungnit sand has been fixed at Rs. 35 per cft. The union has informed the public that the organization has in no way enhanced the rates of sand in Dimapur as yet.
The union said some sand suppliers from Assam are taking advantage of the scarcity of sand and are selling sand at a very high price. The union has termed this as a monopoly created by vested interests. “Sand is sold off even before entering Dimapur, in Assam side of the state border where trucks loaded with sand converge, the union said, and discouraged sand buyers of Dimapur from purchasing sand outside Nagaland gate.
For the interest of the public, the union has informed the public and sand buyers not to pay more than the rates fixed by the union.
It has also reminded the buyers to purchase sand according to cft and not according to truck load because trucks usually carry from 400 to 600 cft per load.
Clarifying that the union is not responsible for the rise of sand rates in Dimapur, union officials also said it is not aware of any sand syndicate in Dimapur.
