IIMUN conference discusses to tackle state, national and global issues

KOHIMA — The India’s International Movement to Unite Nations (IIMUN) conference in Kohima discussed on issues ranging from state, national to global on the second day held at G Rio School, Kohima, on Friday.

During the day, participants were divided into 12 committees to discuss their allotted agendas ranging from state, national to global. The Lok Sabha committee focused on ‘dealing with the issue of refugees and IDPs in the country,’ while the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) addressed the ‘roadmap to deal with rising unemployment.’

The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) committee worked on ‘preparing a framework to alleviate poverty in the state,’ and All India Political Parties Meet (AIPPM) deliberated on ‘preparing a framework for making political campaigns more sustainable.’

The United Nations Women (UNW) dwelled on the ‘framework for making public spaces more gender neutral,’ while the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNP) discussed ‘dealing with global waste management,’ and Niti Aayog made reassessment on ‘Roadmap to promote the development of indigenous technology.’

United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) committee focused on ‘reforms of UNSC,’ while United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) talked about the status of Rohingya.

The Influencer Summit committee explored ‘the advent of social activism,’ while FIFA discussed on “qualifying format for FIFA 2026,’ and the ICIJ focused on issues related to ‘press and media.’

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Shreenidhi Srikanth, director of IIMUN, apprised about the ongoing conference, stating that students engaged in discussions on a wide range of topics from national to international importance as well as extracurricular and social media activism.

She apprised how the committees presented speeches and participated in debates representing various portfolios, fostering collaboration and exploring peaceful solutions.

Srikanth also highlighted the recreational activities organi,ed for participants, including social gatherings and a DJ session to offer a break from committee sessions later.

Aishwarya Manaj, senior member of IIMUN, also emphasised the significance of assigning critical topics to both youngsters to foster discussions on pressing issues.
