Dimapur, April 12 (EMN): Connections 2017, the annual meeting of the North-eastern chapter of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) Almuni Association was held in Guwahati on 9th April 2017 with the organisers felicitating two alumni of the country’s premier media institute who are currently serving as officers in the Assam government, this was informed through a press release from DIPR.
The release further added, preside over by senior journalist Samudra Gupta Kashyap, an IIMC alumnus of the 1985-86 batch, those felicitated under this year’s theme “Campus-wale Bureaucrats” were NumalMahatta, a 1998-99 batch alumnus who is currently posted as Additional SP in Tezpur, and Dinchengfa Boruah, a 2009-10 batch alumnus who is currently posted as Assistant Commissioner in Kaliabor, both in Assam. Another IIMC alumnus from the Northeast who also figured in the “Campus-wale Bureaucrats” list was Regina Hongray of the 1991-92 batch, currently posted as Deputy Secretary in the Manipur State Secretariat, could not make it to the meet.
Speaking on the occasion, Ritesh Kumar, who represented the all-India IIMC Alumni Association, said that while the IIMC has produced hundreds of communicators since its inception way back in 1965, these communicators have spread out to various fields apart from Mass Communication. “Many of them have excelled as bureaucrats and entrepreneurs, while the best journalists across the country and beyond are undoubtedly alumni of the IIMC,” he said. Samudra Gupta Kashyap in his speech called for encouraging more students from across the northeastern region to join the various mass communication courses offered in different campuses of IIMC across the country.
It further added that, the IIMC Alumni Association, which was established in 2012, as of now has 25 chapters including one each in the United Kingdom, Australia and Singapore, apart from the national Association in New Delhi. Each year the Association selects a theme to felicitate those alumni who have excelled in different fields, the theme for 2017 being those who had joined the bureaucracy after passing out from IIMC. Altogether five alumni from the Northeastern region found place in the list of “Campus-wale Bureaucrats” – the other two being MitaliNamchoom of Arunachal Pradesh (2001-02 batch, now an IAS officer), NgathingpeiKhayi of Manipur (2009-10, now an IIS officer).
