[dropcap]I[/dropcap]ndira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Academy Girls Football team entered into the final of the 1st North East Women Open Championship played at Jorhat.
In the first semi-final match today, Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) Academy Girls Football team blanked Jampui Jala Play Centre, Tripura by 3-0. The goals were scored by Ruth, Vizovonuo and Lito. The IGS team is led by Ropfu Meyase, team manager cum coach and 17 players.
Speaking to reporters, Ropfu Meyase assured that the players would try their best in the final, adding the opponent team – both Imphal East FA and SAI Kokrajhar were tough as both have some current India players in their teams.
IGS will now play with the winner of Imphal East FA, Manipur or SAI Kokrajhar, Assam in the final on January 7.The tournament, played by 10 teams, started on December 28 will conclude on January 7. The champion team will walk home with Rs.50,000 and running trophy, runner-up Rs.30,000 and running trophy, Fair play trophy award with Rs.10,000 besides individual prizes such Player of the tournament, Highest goal scorers of the tournament and best players for the final match. The tournament is organized by Ranjit Club of Jorhat, an affiliated unit of Assam Football Association.
