DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 7: A number of members from the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and United Nation Development Project (UNDP) visited the ICAR-NRC on Mithun on September 7 recently. The members are currently travelling in Nagaland to have a consultation with the government of Nagaland for preparation and implementation of a project proposal ‘fostering climate smart highland agriculture in rural areas of Nagaland,’ the organizers said in a note to the media on Wednesday.
The delegation visited the Mithun farm in the early morning and witnessed the semi-intensive system of mithun rearing developed and practised by the institute. Subsequently, they visited the Medziphema campus of the institute and had an interaction with the Scientists of the Institute.
Though the mithun is traditionally reared as a meat animal, the institute has been trying to sensitise the people about its potential as a source of milk, hide, and drought power too. The institute showcased the leather products made from mithun skin. The delegation liked the mithun milk and “rasgulla’ made of mithun milk, which was offered to them for tasting, a note from the organizers said on Wednesday.
Rasha Omar, country representative for India and the Pacific of the IFAD, who was leading the delegation, expressed her satisfaction with the work, the organizers stated.
