IED found planted near Imphal BJP office

IMPHAL, February 7

Security in and around Imphal’s BJP office and ImphalRaj Bhavan has been intensified following detection of an IED onSaturday morning.
The IED weighing about 5 kg consisting of one each of motor shell,remote control device, circuit box, 9 volt battery and detonator wasdetected this morning, around 7 am by a team of Imphal West police onpatrolling near BJP office at Nityapat Chuthek just opposite to RajBhavan.
Personnel of the state police bomb detection and disposal squad whowere called out immediately defused the IED around 7.30 am.Police was yet to confirm whether the IED was planted to target theBJP office or to create tragedy in the area where the space betweenthe BJP office and main road next to Raj Bhavan is used as parking lotfor the Thoubal bound passenger buses.
However, police claimed averting a big tragedy which might be causedif the IED went off with timely detection of the same, terming the IEDas a powerful one.Interestingly, the place where the IED was detected is a high securitysilent zone which police as well as Central security force guardingthe Raj Bhavan were deploying round the clock.
Soon the Following the detection of the IED, security in and aroundthe area has been intensified by deploying additional armed police personnel.
The planting of IED near the BJP office was barely two days after the
party state president demanded imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur, alleging Ibobi led Congress has failed in all fronts including law and order.
State BJP president Th Chaoba strongly condemned the planting of IED while lambasting the security system of the state government.
He alleged that there was no rule of law in the state was clearly showed by the fact that bomb was being able to plant at a high security zone area.
He further demanded shifting of the parking lot from the area for the sack of safety of the people, expressing worried over if the IED was happened to explode.
